One of the first disciplines we learn and quickly overlook are our table manners. Approaches to formalism and painting have become far more expanded than the simple use of paint and brush, or knife and fork. Table Manners will survey a range of artists practicing within a formalist approach, intentionally and unintentionally dissecting painting to its essential elements of light and colour. This exhibition will include artists in all stages of their careers to enable emerging and established artists working throughout New Zealand to be brought together in a show that seeks to create a dialogue around contemporary painting in its expanded field.
