Simple Pleasures
Pippy McClenaghan
24/07/19 – 17/08/19
Opened Wednesday 24th July at 5.30pm.
We are pleased to present Simple Pleasures by Wellington based artist Pippy McClenaghan.
Her perspective is homegrown, the imagery picked out from the everyday, presenting the familiar in a form that speaks of learning and sentimentality. The work is stubbornly visual, harnessing the poetics of promotional signage as a borrowed form of communication. There are emotional angles to be worked; warm, nostalgic stories to be woven around simplistic objects and their bare bone sense of narrative. It’s an unknowable value on one side and on the other there’s a smell of coffee, and a pocket heavily weighted with coins, the scraping of burnt toast, or the sting of hot water on cold feet.
