'If you have Bali in your heart then it’s Bali wherever you go.'
Last year, Mady found herself stuck back in Aotearoa after travelling and working in China. Shot around sites in Petone and staged in her mother's garage, 梦觉(awaken) is a window revealing the artist’s journey through imagined utopias. Making do with equipment at hand, Mady uses role-play, 90’s home movie aesthetics, DIY music and straightforward special effects to externalise self conflict.

Mady Cheng is an artist who grew up in Beijing and is now staying in Petone. She studied Fine Arts at Massey University and graduated in 2018. She recently exhibited at Art at Home (spring).
