KANDY ROAD
Vishmi Helaratne
18/11/21 – 11/12/21
KANDY ROAD is an exploration of painting, sculpture, installation, and hospitality. Welcome to a visual narrative that illustrates nostalgic spaces, reimagined utopias, and anthropomorphic subjects - all through the lens of a queer, brown artist and chef. Mark-making processes are intertwined emotively, autonomously, and primitively through culinary and painting techniques, that aim to expose a high use of viscosity in texture, perspective and deliciousness. Vishmi addresses significant histories of Sri Lankan upbringing in Aotearoa, politics of sex and familiarity of past, present, and future worlds.
